Providing Expert Advice, Innovation & Services to Cambodia's Agriculture & Natural Resources Sector

Cambodia has potential land for agriculture and there is about 85% of total population doing farming. The Royal Government of Cambodia currently has given high priority for agricultural sector aiming at increasing rice production for ensuring food security and improving livelihood of rural people throughout the country.

To achieve the above aim as well as to protect the environment and human health from mis- and over use of agro-chemicals, especially pesticides, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has initiated, an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program in 1993 after a national workshop on “Environment and Integrated Pest Management” which was held at the Royal University of Agriculture, Phnom Penh. This program commenced its activities as pilot phase from 1993-1995 with technical and financial support from International Development and Research Center-Canada (IDRC), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. After completing the pilot phase, FAO had started season-long Training of Trainers Course (TOT), Farmer Trainer Orientation Course (FTOC) and increased the number of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in 1996. Since then, many farmers who had been completed IPM-FFS training have been actively participated in IPM activities and inspired to learn how to grow healthy crops based on IPM principles and approaches.

Since the start the Cambodian National IPM Program has received financial supports from and working in close cooperation with many International Organizations (IOs) and None Government Organizations (NGOs) mainly including IDRC, FAO, IRRI, Danida, APIP)/IPM Sub-component, , Srer Khmer, GTZ, NGO-Forum, CIDA, ADESS, World Vision, World Education, LWS, ZOA, Aust-CARE, CBO, NPA, Ausaid, PRASAC, UNICEF, CARERE, ADA, CAAEP, APHEDA, , MCC, NAPA, OXFAM, REDBANA, CONCERN, CASD, CIDSE, HEKS, READ-MRC, MUI, SAMANKEE, CARE, CARITAS, CRS, CWS, GRET, EED, PADEK, JVC, Seila Program, AIT and so on.
